Buttercup

When a child turns six and is preparing to move to first grade at our local Waldorf School there are three projects that they complete by the last day of school. They make a wooden sword, a flannel blanket with embroidery and they make a cloth doll. Cerys is so proud of her doll like a new mama of her baby. She has named her Buttercup and is already nursing her and caring for her. Cerys did all of the sewing for the doll and stuffed her with wool stuffing. Her teacher Joleen helped form the head and another parent crocheted the mohair to make the hair. Cerys chose the color green for the eyes like her own eyes. All the children in the class who made them, were presented with the dolls wrapped up in their blankets. Even the boys made dolls. The craft and art side of Waldorf is one of the reasons we were drawn towards this style of education. In first grade, Cerys will learn to knit. Welcome Buttercup.

i teared up reading your post. this is the most beautiful doll. it points to all the reasons why i love waldorf education. your little cerys has a beautiful spirit.

I absolutely love this doll! Yes, the one I made is similar to waldorf dolls, i stuffed it with cotton batting. The eyes were very difficult because i did take the needle through the head and back. Thank you so much for visiting my blog. Yours is in my bookmarks and am looking forward to visiting it often.
