Although I haven't technically seen any stars on our short visit to Las Angeles I have seen two film crews and one CBS studio and all have left me giddy as anything. What is it that leaves me so excited about this kind of stuff? We are all finding different things to be excited about. Yesterday was mostly about Cerys as we popped into this store.
It was delightful to follow her around as waves of excitement bounced off her body. She wanted everything and anything. She touched it all. Her fingers gracefully danced over dolls, clothing and books. Her eyes were in awe as we came upon historical displays like these.
Julie of course is one of my favorites. Although just a tad older than me she's from the 70's and I feel a connection to her as Cerys and I read the books together.
It was like being a Disneyland for dolls. I was surrounded by 100's of girls all plastered with the same kind of smile that just beamed from their faces. You couldn't help but smile with them. Some things were amazing, some things seemed to make sense but at the same time were a little over the top.
Like a doll holder in the restroom stall.
Cerys brought her look alike doll to the store. We picked her up plus Felicity's horse plus about 10 different outfits at a garage sale for $75.00. Then Cerys sold her Samantha Doll (that was purchased for $50.00 at a thrift store) to someone locally that funded her shopping yesterday. If that makes sense...the cycle of thrifting
I'm getting used to being here and with that comes small waves of comfort. When I first arrived I felt like a deer in headlights. I was frozen with fear. It's so different from anywhere I have been before. Or I should say, anywhere I have considered living before. We changed our approach on Tuesday so that instead of looking at where we were going to live, we started looking at where we weren't going to live. Somehow that made it easier. With some disappointment, we have ruled out Orange County which includes the Waldorf School. We made the decision that we are going to live in the south bay area (near El Segundo or south of there) and stay near the beaches. I am going to take a giant leap for our family and put on my home school teacher's hat. Gulp. I have many different feelings about that but overall I am excited. Especially if going to the beach and roller blading up and down the beach can be part of our day. Somehow I can add building sandcastles into the curriculum.
and then this one.
This is a dentist of all things. I thought the angles of this building were lovely. We also passed a Sears where the font must have been the original one from the 60's but I couldn't bring the camera out quick enough to capture it on film.
Overall I am still very excited about our adventure to move down here. The kids are seriously in love with the beach and when we told them we were traveling home on Friday, they were very disappointed. I'm taking that as a good thing. Now we sit and wait to see if the relocation package is going to happen and whether we do in fact move here. If we don't I'll handle that too as we would be leaving close friends and family to move here. And our home. But overall we are open to any changes that are coming our way.
