It's funny that on eBay I tend to struggle winning a small collection of Ben Seibel dishes but when this auction came up a couple weeks ago at a starting bid of $39, I was the only bidder. 36 beautiful pieces of Mikasa Ben Seibel dishes. I'll take it as a blessing since I think by far this is my favorite pattern of his that I own. The shipping was a bargain at $15 because the seller was in Oregon. Almost the opposite from this other auction I won in 07.
Maybe owning 41 dinner plates is starting to sound a little obsessional but I'm looking forward to that very large dinner party I'm eventually going to host. What I adore about this set is that the dishes are all the same design, just the colors and patterns are different.
My friend H did point out that I vowed not to buy dishes on eBay any more because they all tend to arrive broken. I did write to the seller begging them to pack carefully. Luckily every piece arrived in one piece.
We are leaving to Portland in a couple hours. Thanks again for your suggestions. I wonder if anyone would notice if I brought the dishes along.

Congrats on your beautiful dishes, Selena. They are fantastic! Yeay, Ben! If I didn't live so far away, I would LOVE to be a guest at your dinner party eating healthy, lovingly prepared food off your groovy dishes. Have a safe and wonderful trip, and I look forward to reading your adventures when you return. xoxox, Sunny

Those are awesome! I just browsed through ben's site you linked to & found a pattern of plates that I just saw at goodwill this morning. I think I am going back!

Those are so worth EVERY penny. They are great! I have been off linens for a couple of months. I simply cannot bring another vintage linen tablecloth into this teeny tiny house! Have fun in Portland!

Hi Selena - Knittn Kittn is a fun place to go - it's a little shop with vintage sewing/craft ephemerma. Have you ever been to the Kennedy Schoolhouse? That's a really fun place to visit for drinks/dinner.

I own a complete 12 settings & multiples of all serving dishes of Anchor Hocking's 1938 Manhattan depression, as well as a very complete service for 12 of 1940's Homer Laughlin English Regency, several boxes of original Fiesta, and about 8 or 9 other partial sets of dishes ranging from 1950's diner-type dishes to depression glass to Hall patterns to Fire King sapphire to Pyrex kitchenware...I see something I like and I just have to find a complete set of it! I never pay more than $1 or so per piece and I started with the Manhattan when I was about 8 years old so I managed to get that for 10 cents or a quarter for each piece at estate sales in my area. It's the thrill of the hunt for me, so no, you can never have too many dishes!

I love these colors, and what a deal! I want to come to that big dinner party.

Oh, those are simply smashing! I love the plates, admittedly, but the photo you took is splendid, as well. I would be satisfied with just the picture. So clear and lovely and colorful.
Your posts always make me see things like dishes in a fresh, new light.:)

Congrats, I think it's a great color and design! I would be really worried though about moving so many dishes cross-country without breaking one! I'm sure you'll figure that out. :-) And I'd love to come to your diner party (if it weren't so far away) and see how you cook food for 41 people! ;-)
Have a great trip!

Pretty set of dishes. I need to stay away from ebay for a while. I also got some dinner plates 2 weeks ago that I just blogged about. Come on over for a visit and see them. I am in love!

Hi Selena! I've been out of the loop for days due to a nasty virus attack on my laptop last week. Hopefully my laptop will be working better in a couple days.
Your dishware is fabulous! I love the pattern. I wish I could find something like that at Goodwill. I did buy some china with some lovely roses on it for a song. Goodwill always has such lovely sets of dishware.
Hope you and the family are doing great!
