Get ready for a new show to hit the airwaves about our favorite pastime: Thrifting.
Auction Hunters is premiering this Tuesday, November 9th on Spike. If you recall I missed the band wagon with a couple other recent shows that focus on treasure hunting but I am not going to miss this one. I'm going to watch Auction Hunters from day one.
It stars two of the best thrifters in the business: Clinton "Ton" Jones and Allen Haff (whose rather dishy I might add-move over Mike). They do something that I have only dreamed about. They go to storage unit auctions and they bid on them. The winner gets everything inside which could be full of smelly old bowling shoes to boxes full of gold. It's a complete gamble yet something that I have always wanted to take part in. What's stopped me in the past is the cash needed to buy the contents of the unit and the space to store everything. Maybe this show will finally get me started in storage unit auctions.
I think for many of us this show will be really inspiring and of course educational. We are going to learn about hot items to look for while we are out thrifting and junking. Not only will Ton and Allen take us through the experience of bidding on the auction, we will get to see what they won and whether they found anything worth money. From the previews it looks like they sometimes make a lot of money.
My best advice for those that want to ReSell is to take notes while watching every episode. Write down items that Ton and Allen uncover and research what they found by going online and looking at completed auctions. Just watching this show could make you some money.
Auction Hunters will feature 8 half-hour episodes starting this Tuesday.
I'm thinking about hosting an Auction Hunters Premier Party at my house this Wednesday night at 8pm. I'm going to Tivo the show so that we can watch it on Wednesday. Does anyone local want to join me? Do you want to plan your own Premier Party where you live? Maybe each person could bring a thrifted item to swap after the show. I'll be serving wine, cold drinks and popcorn. If you want to join me just drop me a note through my contact tab.
I'm so looking forward to the first episode.

The show looks great; thanks for the info. I'm not at the level to do that yet, financially, but wow would it be fun. Guess I'll live vicariously until then.

Do you watch American Pickers? We have a trial subscription to netflicks and I'm totally addicted to the pair of antique resellers who travel the midwest searching for profitable sales. I think it's on History channel normally.

Thanks for the heads up Selena. I actually bought the contents of a storage unit once because it had a vintage doll buggy in it. Most of the stuff was junk but I still have the doll buggy.

You just might be the coolest person I know (well, sort of know)!

That sounds like a crazy pseudo job...especially if they have no idea what is in the storage container!

Wow, you can tell I'm tired when reading this is at 3am: When I first clicked on this entry I thought the show was called "Action Hunters." And I was wondering how a show called "Action Hunters" could have anything to do with thrifting, lol.
Well, I guess it could...if you have to fight little old ladies to get to the granny sweaters or something, lol.
But thanks for the heads-up. This show looks promising.

Looks like A&E has a similar show that starts on Wednesday - Storage Unit Wars. I think that's the title - I only caught a portion of the promo. It looks like fun - Folks get 5 min. to check out a storage unit and then they start bidding. It might be good and it might not!

Just saw the promo again - it's called Storage Wars and it looks like fun - and a good way to pick tips on what to sell and what not to sell.
