Thrift Share Monday - Thanksgiving Weekend

Where has Apron Thrift Girl been? I've been working what feels like 24/7 in order to sell on my multiple ReSelling Venues. Am I tired? Sort of....but overall I'm having such a satisfying, incredible time. I am loving being at the Antique Society. It's as if all my purchases since ATG began have fallen into place. Some of the inventory that I'm selling at Mod Sonoma was purchased years ago for some future rainy day. I'm so relieved to know that the rainy day has arrived.

Part of the reason I'm so busy is that carrying around years of inventory is a bit overwhelming. Add listing on eBay, shipping sold items on eBay and selling on Amazon and it equals one crazy, busy schedule. The positive thing though is that I'm making money. I sold $500 on Friday and $950 on Saturday at the Antique Society alone. It leaves me in absolutely awe to be honest as well as a huge smile on my face.

Of course this means that ATG fell to the back burner. My best friend Kara, from Florida is going to be helping me here. She is an amazing bookseller, writer and artist. She is going to share with you her knowledge of ReSelling. I'm also going to focus a lot more of my posts on selling at a local venue. For me, it's truly been what's taken my business to the next level. I want to share every bit of it with you from marketing, to displays to package design. I'll still write about online ReSelling but it will simply be added to the multiple mix that makes up my ReSelling life.

Now to Thrift Share Monday........I thrifted just a little bit this weekend. The glass tubes above are vintage Pyrex tubes. I'm going to use them for Mod Sonoma.

I filled these four tubes with German Glass Glitter to sell in my basket display.

I covered their somewhat dull lids with Tim Holtz washi tape. The packaging of vintage crafty bits, antique hardware and old game pieces is one my favorite aspects of my new ReSelling adventure.

Thrift Share Monday

Another crazy, thrift filled weekend for me. It began on Thursday with an estate sale, carried on into Friday at another estate sale, yard sales and estate sales on Saturday and the Flea Market on Sunday. And while I should have plenty of photos to share here, I spent Sunday preparing for my Open House at the Antique Society. Thanks to all of you that dropped by. It was a wonderful day and my sales were over $800. I have to pinch myself sometimes at how well my space is doing. The experienced dealers say that I'm still in my honeymoon stage but I'm grateful for every moment of this. Whether it continues or not, it has been a blessing to have such a good start to my first experience of selling locally.

I arrived home too tired to take photos of my weekend finds. So I hope that we all can live vicariously through all of your finds.

Basket Tags

I think I'm having way too much fun with these baskets for my space at the antique store. Being the organizer that I try to be, I decided to separate the small cellophane bags of vintage wares by category. This of course led to identifying each basket.

I came across these vintage tags in my garage a couple weeks ago. They have the most lovely, old patina to them. I printed off the words onto some vintage typewriter paper and used double sided tape to secure them to the label. I finished them off by tying them onto the baskets with some aqua and white baker's twine.

Lately I've been having a very hard time relaxing. The amount of work that I have to do both in the house, as a mama and selling on my various venues leaves me working from pre-dawn until night time. Now with that said, I do adore my work but I can feel my body physically struggling to relax and un-tense. For some reason, sitting at my pricing table with my cellophane bag and my box of Bits & Bobs has been very calming for me.  Making these simple tags? Complete bliss......

Thrift Share Monday - Lucky

When I begin my search through the Garage Sale ads on Thursday evening, you never truly know how the weekend will turn out. Sometimes though you get a rough feeling. Last Thursday it didn't look too good. There wasn't a single professionally run estate sale for Friday morning which is really where I do a large percentage of my shopping.

On Friday morning it didn't look any better. One of my friends was down in Los Angeles thrifting which made it even worse for me. I'm typically a the grass is greener type of girl and the idea of thrifting in LA sounded way more enticing than Sonoma County. So at the last minute I decided to travel with Dave to the East Bay Area. I dropped him off at a work event and then had the day to myself to thrift. I found the lucite and glass lamp featured in the shop update post at Mod Sonoma. I also found the Teak Folding Desk. It was just refreshing overall to shop in a new area. When I am armed with my GPS, iGarageSale app and my Thrift Store app, I can still thrift in an unfamiliar area and feel confident about finding stores and sales. 

Saturday was a completely different story that consisted of me forgetting my iphone at home (I've NEVER done that before), getting to a 9 am rummage sale at 8:30 only to discover it had already opened and basically arriving home with only a worn painted bookcase, a chipped ceramic piece (had missed the flaw when buying it) and some very hurt thrift pride. The day ended just as bad with Keiran getting stung by a wasp and our van battery was dead 40 minutes from home at a party. I was glad to go to bed that night and leave the day behind.

Thankfully the Flea Markets on Sunday morning mended my thrift pain with some finds. The photo at the top of the post might be a strange thing for me to buy but I love it. It's a large fabric on cardboard sign for Lucky Brand Jeans. I'm guessing it came out of a store at one time. The seller told me that he had purchased it at an auction. Lucky Brand and Free People are my two favorite clothing brands. I adore their whimsical style and slightly alternative look. They just seem very "me" and I pick them up second hand whenever I can. Launch in Sebastopol is my favorite consignment store and they tend to have both of these brands. In fact I just picked up a fab Free People winter coat that was marked half off. 

I thought that the Lucky Brand sign was charming enough to display in my office. And who knows......in 30 years, one of then-grown kids can sell it as a collectible. I paid $5 for it.

The Vintage stocking above came from the Santa Rosa Flea Market. How sweet is that little character on the top with her swinging hips.

Have any of you come across this book yet? I can't wait to start reading it. I paid $1 for it.

After returning home from the Flea Markets, I began to work on the garage. I'm organizing it so that I have an area for each of my venues. Yesterday I spent time on the Alameda section so that packing the van will be easier each month. When the garage looks a little tidier, I'll take some photos and write a post about how I've organized it.

Thrift Share Monday - October 8

It was an incredibly crazy-thrift-filled weekend. It began on Friday with a farm estate sale over in Napa, another barn estate sale in Santa Rosa on Saturday and then Alameda Antiques by the Bay flea market on Sunday. There are weekends where I purely love my thrift filled life!

These two photos features a fab vintage scale that I bought on Saturday.

The pillars of the scale are cast iron. It weighs a ton and is very large but I had to buy it. I'm not quite sure what to do with it yet but I'm excited about the purchase. It also came with a solid wood and iron platform that I'm going to make into a coffee table.

These baskets fit into this very cool vintage store display that came out of an old store in the Rincon Valley in Santa Rosa. I arrived at the sale early in order to be able to get this. I ran straight for it and slapped my Sold sticker on it. I'm going to place it in my space at the Antique Society and use it to sell small items but also offer it for sale. (I think......I'm considering keeping it too)

This was also from the Barn sale and I'm pretty sure it was a fixture in the old store. It's my aqua blue so already it's pretty well perfect. It's going to be used as a fixture in my space.

Alameda was a wonderful day out. I sold so many of the big items that I took there. It's very satisfying to drive home with a much emptier van. Plus I was able to shop while Dave looked after the sales. I bought 2 Mod hanging lamps, a teak bar cart and 3 table lamps. I'm so enjoying this new venue for ReSelling.

Thrift Share Monday - the moon

A couple months ago a friend sold me a small moon globe. I couldn't sell it because it was too perfect and quickly became a part of my decor. Then this weekend I found another although without the base. It fit perfectly into a mid century modern candle holder and the other moon is now down at the Antique Society. Lately I've been letting go of so many things to sell that it was almost a relief to find a 2nd one so that I could make a legitimate excuse in keeping it. Do you all experience that at times?


My find of the weekend was a Grete Jalk coffee table. It isn't perfect with some faint moisture damage but it was an exciting find to come across.

It was an overall good weekend. I did make a bad thrift choice on Friday and went to a barn sale that looked incredible. The prices were way too high though with everything on my wishlist selling at Retail prices. I bought a few things. Saturday I went to the sale that I realized I should have gone to on Friday. Isn't that the worst? Thrifting is a form of gambling though. Sometimes we make the right choice and we land on the most amazing sale and then other times we kiss a lot of frogs that don't turn into princes (as my close friend Guusje would say). I can't wait to hear about your weekend!

Thrift Share Monday - Sept 17

Although the weekend started slow with a poor thrift Friday, it picked up on Saturday and it finished fantastically on Sunday at the Flea Market. I found so much inventory that my living room is stuffed full of boxes, bags and furniture.

Above is my oldest Coleman find ever. This is a 418b triple burner Coleman Stove and I'm pretty sure it's from 1940. I haven't had a chance to research it properly. Do any of you Coleman experts know the approximate value of this?

At the Flea on Sunday, I found this lovely Coleman stove 415d with a stand. Isn't it the sweetest? Now I just need a vintage canvas tent and we're ready to go camping.

I'm usually not a tree limb/stick furniture type of girl but something about this table intrigued me.

I have so much inventory to process at the moment. I have ebay listings to write and Alameda Flea Market and Antique Society inventory to price. The first couple of weeks after school starts are always so packed. I always feel that I'll fall back into a nice leisurely work schedule. What am I thinking? I have 3 months of work to catch up on. Does that sound familiar. Eventually I'll get back into my routine but for now I'm really just chasing my tail. Thankfully I'm having fun which is part of the point in doing a job that I'm passionate about.
