I was so surprised to see this image in my inbox from Amy Butler. I'm very familiar with Amy's fabric line and designs but I had no idea that her husband was designing as well.

Amy writes "I'm in love with his richly muted palettes and organic, geometric prints. The collection is his folk modern interpretation of natural elements weaving together a balance of hand-drawn patterns inspired by Japanese indigo and mid-century fine art. I think you'll find it very "guy-friendly" and that's a big part of what David is up to with this collection, something for men and women alike!"

The Mid Century Modern style certainly caught my attention.

Mod art can be found in the least expected places.

This craft book was discovered in the Legacy Thrift Store in Sebastopol on one of their half price sale days. The book was a mere 75¢.

I love to read about design especially in the craft sense. The author, Jennifer Gray has created many of the patterns in the book from what she visually sees around her. While her passion in the text is somewhat muted as it is a craft book in the 60's, underneath you can sense that she sees wonderment in everything around her. The takes that and weaves it into design on canvas.

She obviously was a woman embracing the new designs of the 1960's with these illustrations below.

This book is an inexpensive purchase at most online used bookstores.

From the Dust Jacket - "Jennifer Gray trained at Bromley and at Brighton Colleges of Art. She is well known as a creative embroideress, and her work has been bought by, amongst others, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Needlework Development Scheme, and the London County Council."

Mixing vintage & modern I took some wool roving, felted it on some vintage burlap and placed it in a embroidery hoop. This is part of my Mod Christmas decor this year.
